Peer Youth Work (Bismarck)

Peer youth work is simply youth providing services to other youth. At Youthworks, peer youth workers provide a wide range of services and work on a variety of different issues.  Youth workers may be working with youth  involved in high-risk behaviors as delinquency or substance abuse.  They may also be working with youth needing general support and encouragement.   They are often working with youth having problems at home.   Some youth work focuses on specific problem behaviors, while other assignments may be more general and involve developing social or recreational skills. Youth workers are generally 16 years of age or older and they must complete an extensive training program.

At Youthworks, individual supervision and case consultation are vital to the success of the youth worker program. Written assignments are provided to the youth worker and the written reports are provided by the youth worker to the case manager.

Youth workers see youth approximately one hour per week. Depending on need some youth are seen more frequently and when situations improve youth may be seen bi-weekly or less frequently.

Peer youth work is voluntary and provided with parental consent.
